You could join them. The best place to start is the National Custom and Self Build Association’s (NaCSBA) Self Build Portal, a comprehensive advisory website for self-builders and custom-builders 

The Portal provides impartial advice and useful information on how to access local authority ‘Right to Build’ registers, finding yourself a plot of land, where to get a self-build or custom-build mortgage, the different types of construction methods you can use and a host of other issues.
